About

Sooke Shelter Society is a community service provider in Sooke, BC providing our most vulnerable citizens who are homeless or living in extreme poverty with food, tents, tarps, sleeping bags, camp stoves, other shelter-related costs and other basic living necessities seven days a week. Serving families, seniors, adults and youth facing multiple challenges of poverty, unemployment, mental health, substance use, chronic health issues, brain injury and aging.

Sooke Shelter Society is a key player in the work to end homelessness in the Greater Sooke Region. We aim to bring a homeless shelter to provide temporary residence for homeless individuals. Shelters exist to provide residents with safety and protection from exposure to the weather while simultaneously reducing the environmental impact on the community. We believe in and advocate for Housing First. This approach offers permanent, affordable housing as quickly as possible for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, and then provides the supportive services and connections to the community-based supports people need to keep their housing and avoid returning to homelessness.

Our services contribute to a stronger sense of belonging and engagement among individuals with multiple issues and barriers (homelessness, poverty, mental health and substance use) in the Sooke Region, thereby enhancing clients' health and well-being.

We aim for everyone to have a place to call home with the health supports and peer-supports that contribute to independence and each person’s well being.
