Uplift Local Community: The Ethel Hedgeman Lyle & Nellie May Quander Educators Legacy Project

In honor of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.’s founder, Ethel Hedgeman Lyle, and the sorority’s incorporator and first International President, Nellie May Quander (both educators) the January chapter meeting service project will provide school supplies to public schools in East Point and College Park, recognizing that supply needs often increase during the second half of the school year. Sorors may earn up to eight (8) service hours by participating in this activity. One (1) service hour will be awarded for each school supply item purchased and brought to the January meeting, for up to seven (7) items, and one (1) additional service hour may be earned by writing a thank-you note to educators using the note cards provided at chapter meeting.

East Point: Asa Hilliard Elementary School, Briar Hills Elementary School, Brookview Elementary School, Paul D. West Middle School, Woodland Middle School, and Tri-Cities High School
College Park, Georgia: Bethune Elementary School, Cliftondale Elementary School, College Park Elementary School, Feldwood Elementary School, Hamilton E. Holmes, Elementary School, Seaborn Lee Elementary School, Stonewall Tell Elementary School, McNair Middle School, Banneker High School, The Promise Career Institute

Items needed:

Elementary
#2 Pencils, crayons, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks, scissors, composition notebooks, folders, tissues, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer

Middle School
Pens (blue/black), #2 pencils, highlighters, notebooks/binders/dividers, filler paper, erasers, ruler, glue sticks, scissors, tissues, hand sanitizer.

High School
Backpack/messenger bag, pens, pencils, highlighters, notebooks/binders/dividers, folders, ruler, eraser, calculator (as needed), subject-specific supplies (e.g., graphing calculator, composition books).

10:00am - 12:00pm
