United Kids SOLFul is a free, summer day camp for educationally at-risk elementary students (entering grades 1st - 8th) that provides academic and creative activities to help close the learning gap during the summer. (https://ocunited.org/solful/)  Both ADULT and YOUTH volunteers are needed to assist with camp activities including art, sports, group activities, cooking, and more. (Volunteers age 18+ will need to be fingerprinted via LiveScan. Returning volunteers do not need to go through the application and interview process again, but please notify both the SOLful camp and SLOBS coordinator that you are a returning volunteer.)

Time commitment: OC United will accept volunteers who are available to work 2 or more days per week for 2 to 3 weeks. However, it would be great if you can volunteer more. The time commitment requested of the volunteers is meant to provide some stability and continuity for the student campers attending the summer camp.

Work shifts: Both morning and afternoon shifts are available on each day of the camp. Volunteers may mix and match the shifts as long as they each sign up for 6 or more shifts during the camp (6/29 to 7/17) and work at least 2 shifts per week.

Hour log: 4.5 hours per shift if you arrive on time for your shift. Please use the Track It Forward app to log hours while you are at the event site.

How to register:

Step 1. Sign up on Track it Forward for each of the shifts you plan to work for.

Step 2. If you are a new volunteer to Solful, please fill out a volunteer application BY JUNE 12TH at  https://ocunited.org/volunteer/ and follow the application process. After you submit a volunteer application, you will be contacted for a Zoom interview.)

Step 3: Sign up for the Mandatory Training Session in June (date TBD) on Track It Forward. Training is required for all new, returning, student, and adult volunteers. There is an online training option if you can't attend in-person. You will receive volunteer hours for attending the training session.

What to bring: Water, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen recommended.

Dress Code: SLOBs T-Shirt & closed-toe shoes

Cancellation guideline: Working with at-risk youth in this program requires a high level of commitment. Last minute cancellations within 3 days before the camp date is only permitted in case of emergency. Thanks for your understanding.
