CEREMONY & WREATH LAYING (SATURDAY DECEMBER 13TH)
Ceremony Day Timeline:
Volunteers are welcome to show up for the 10AM ceremony & wreath laying, or earlier if you are available and want to help with wreath loading/unloading/prep.
· 9:30 AM - Unload wreaths at Mountain View Cemetery at ceremony location.
o Volunteers needed! If you can, please bring gloves & a pocket knife/scissors for breaking down boxes and unloading wreaths.
· 9:45 AM - All ceremony participants arrive at the cemetery by this time.
· 10:00 AM - Ceremony begins promptly at 10AM.
Ceremony Details:
· The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 AM with our nationwide moment of silence. The ceremony location is the same as past years, in front of the Soldier Statue in the center of the cemetery.
Other Details:
· The ceremony takes place in front of the Statue of the Unknown Soldier, in the middle of the cemetery.
· The ceremony is standing room only, chairs are not provided.
· Dogs are not allowed at the ceremony, or anywhere else at Mountain View Cemetery (except service dogs).
· Parking - Parking is allowed on interior roads within the Cemetery. Please pull off to the side enough for cars to still be able to pass you, while still being mindful of the headstones on the ground. The roads immediately surrounding the statue will be blocked off for the ceremony. There is also parking along 11th Avenue and surrounding streets.
· The ceremony will go on rain, snow, or shine.
· There is only ONE set of restrooms at the cemetery - on the side of the cemetery office off 11th Avenue. I will have these unlocked from 9:30AM-12:00PM on Saturday.
· Dress for the weather. The ceremony is outside and takes approximately 20 minutes, followed by the wreath laying.
· Photos/video are allowed and welcomed, please share with me after so I can use them on our social media pages.
· Wagons & brooms are NOT needed this year. We anticipate enough volunteers that we don't need individuals to take 10+ wreaths - it is more likely each volunteer will lay 1-3 wreaths.
· Wreaths will be laid AFTER the ceremony. Please leave the wreaths in the pile until after the ceremony, when instructed to lay them.
