Spring Chicken Chore Training & Refresher
Friday, April 17 2026
Learn how to do Spring/Mobile Chicken Chores with Farm Veterinarian Steve and Volunteer Manager Melanie.
Spring/Mobile Chicken Chore Training is for those new to Chicken Chores, as well as for trained volunteers who need to learn or review the routine for doing Chicken Chores in the Outdoor Goat Enclosure. Training covers proper gate operation to prevent animal escapes, locating supplies in the Goat-area shed, and daily tasks such as replenishing chicken feed and water, collecting eggs, and cleaning the Mobile Coop. We will also review Avian Flu precautions, so we don't spread the virus to our chicken flock.
There are two chore slots per day - one in the morning and one in the evening. Chicken chores are self-guided. Once you've completed training, you can sign up for as few or as many slots that fit in your schedule. All volunteers are welcome to train on chickens, including those aged 15+ and all members of family groups (as long as children/tweens are accompanied by an adult).
Trained Chicken Chore Volunteer are welcome to bring family and friends along to watch and participate in collecting eggs, as long as all members of your group wash their hands and disinfect their boots before and after chores.
We will be meeting in front of the Squash House. All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes/boots that you are prepared to submerge in our step-in wash bucket. Bring a hat and wear sunscreen. We will begin training promptly at 3:30pm.
