Tree I.D. Walk and Tree Selection Discussion Walk in Ben Brenman Park

Saturday, August 06 2022

This will be an opportunity to work on tree and shrub i.d. in a park with an absolutely incredible diversity of native trees and shrubs.

To date, we have noted a total of 69 tree and shrub species in Ben Brenman Park and it's sister park on the East side of Holmes Run, Tarleton Park. Of these, at least 53 are Native Trees/Shrub Species; 13 Exotic (i.e. from another continent); 2 native to Virginia but not Northern Virginia; and 1 freakish cloned cultivar of a native.

We will meet in Ben Brenman Park at 9:00am in the parking lot near the park flagpole and bathroom building:

I encourage you all to bring your favorite tree i.d. book if you have one; I will bring a book that I like particularly well.

I will also bring tree/shrub i.d. checklists that may be helpful to you, on our group walk or if you choose to come back on your own.
