Trail Bench Base Project (6x)
Project Overview
This Eagle Scout Service Project, led by Arjun Addaypally of BSA Troop 178, focused on the critical infrastructure surrounding the seating areas at Erwin Park. Arjun oversaw the design and installation of six specialized trail bench mulch bases. These foundations serve to protect the park's seating assets from weed and tree root encroachment, and maintenance activities (such as mowing) while ensuring a level, clear, and comfortable foot area for trail users.
Execution & Leadership
The project was conducted over an eight-week window between February 1, 2026, and March 22, 2026. Arjun demonstrated significant leadership by managing a team of nine volunteers, including seven BSA Youth members and two adults. The work process involved complex logistics, including site leveling, the installation of weed fabric, and the securing of pressure-treated wood frames using rebar pinning and structural wood screws to ensure long-term durability.
Service Impact & Resource Valuation
The completion of these bases significantly extends the lifespan of the existing benches and improves the overall aesthetics and safety of the park’s rest areas. The total economic impact of Arjun’s project reflects both the direct procurement of materials and the substantial volunteer labor hours dedicated to the park’s restoration.
