Join the City of Richmond Parks & Recreation Office, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, City of Richmond Office of Sustainability, and the Friends of Fonticello Park for an informative talk about the tiny forest planted at Fonticello Park in Richmond.
On March 15, 2025, community members, in partnership with the City of Richmond Parks and Recreation, planted a Miyawaki-style forest at Fonticello Park. Ann Jurczyk from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Daniel Klein from the City of Richmond will guide you through the creation of this unique green space. They’ll cover the origins of the Miyawaki method, the goals behind the project, the types of trees planted, and the environmental benefits this tiny forest aims to bring to the community.
Tiny forests, also known as pocket forests or micro-forests, may be small in size, but they pack a powerful environmental punch. During this event, you’ll have the opportunity to see the tiny forest up close and learn how such projects help enhance biodiversity, improve air quality, and contribute to the health of urban ecosystems.
Please remember to bring your own lawn chair or blanket to this outdoor event.
