Richmond Tree Stewards

A group of Tree Stewards who regularly volunteer in Byrd Park have initiated an effort to reforest a 4.5 acre section in Byrd Park. An initial step in their efforts is to establish a "no mow" zone in order to stabilize the ground, prevent erosion, and protect 33+ young trees. Volunteers are needed to install stakes, rope and signage to create a barrier to mowers. Volunteers will be working with a mallet and/or picket pounder to drive the stakes into the ground. Tools are provided, please dress for hard work: close-toed shoes, gloves, plenty of water and sunscreen are recommended. Park by the Dell Shelter which is just past the Barker Field parking lot, behind Dogwood Dell.

This is a great opportunity to see this project in the early stages. Experience is not necessary though installing the stakes requires some strength.
