ALE Summer program

Please share with any individuals or organizations who have, or work with teens. This is a great opportunity to make some summer spending money, as well as contribute to prevention efforts within the community!

ALE – Alcohol Law Enforcement – is looking for teens between 16 ½ and 17 ½ years of age, to assist with compliance checks of tobacco retailers. This is to insure tobacco retailers are checking for ID before selling tobacco products, andnot selling to minors. They are looking for teens in Cumberland, Robeson, Hoke, and Lee Counties to cover a 9 county district – the ALE agents are located in Fayetteville.
What the teens will be doing:
- Assist ALE conduct tobacco retailer compliance checks
o The teen will attempt to purchase a tobacco product at a tobacco retail store – ALE will supply all funds needed
o The teen will be with 2 ALE agents – one of the agents will ALWAYS be observing the teen
o ALE will transport the teen
- Working hours will depend on the number of stores ALE receives per month, but will be either after school or on Saturdays – no later than 8:00 or 9:00 pm Monday – Thursday, and up to 8-10 hours on Saturdays.
- The pay is $10 per hour
Requirements for the teens:
- DMV ID or Driver’s License
- Not involved in any criminal proceedings, and no pending charges
- Calm demeanor – acts natural when making the purchase
- Gets in and out of vehicles easily, and can be on their feet for long periods of time
- Pass an age verification to ensure they look like they are at least 18, but not too much over
- 16 ½ - 17 ½ years old

*The ALE agents will talk with the teen’s parents/caregiver, and explain all of the details.

If you have, or know of any teens who would like to participate, let me know ASAP, ALE would like to begin the age verification process by April if possible.
