INFO: We will be holding the 14th annual Day of Giving in Cheyenne on the 10th of May 2019. At the event we collect non-perishable food, personal care items, including new underwear, craft items, blood, unused prescription medications, medical supplies and equipment, hearing aids and glasses, cell phones (for Safehouse) and provide a venue for signing up to donate organs or bone marrow. We have grown from assisting three agencies in 2006 to 18 this year, and each year have involved over 70 churches, more than 50 businesses, 11 community groups and many, many individuals who are interested in supporting the work of these agencies. Three food pantries are among the 18, along with several helping children, families, the developmentally disadvantaged and the homeless specifically. We collect many items on the event day, and any funds we receive are spent during the following year only for items needed by the agencies' clients which are not donated by the public and which are not in the agency's budget.
We have also been involving the youth in the community by providing them the ability to have a Youth Event the day before our event day. Youth from school groups, churches, Scouts and other entities do the planning and advance collections of food, crafts and personal care items and fill the volunteer positions of carrying in, sorting, and boxing the donated items on the Thursday before our Friday date, and have usually contributed between 1/3 and 1/2 of our total collection for each year! Quite often they are also gathering items ahead of time at grocery stores or in schools as well.
