Precious Child Volunteer Opportunities – June 2025
Summer break is upon us, which means it’s time for us to start gearing up for our Fill A Backpack program! This year, we aim to serve 11,500 children by providing them with a brand-new backpack filled with appropriate grade supplies before school starts.

We have a few different ways you can help us get ready, including:

Planning a Donation Drive within your community to help collect new backpacks and school supplies
Volunteering to clean and sticker collection bins for our drive partners to use
Giving your time to prep our warehouse so we’re ready to start filling backpacks
Fill A Backpack – Additional Donation Drive Partners Needed!

Our Donation Drive partners play an essential role in supporting A Precious Child’s Fill A Backpack program and helping ensure that every child can start school with the supplies needed to succeed and feel confident for the academic year ahead.

We’re looking for at least 80 additional champions to rally the network around their school, office, faith community, sports team, neighborhood, or beyond to help collect new backpacks and school supplies and help us meet the needs of our greater community.

Collection events can run anytime between June 23rd – August 1st, and whether you collect enough goods to fill one backpack or one hundred backpacks, every donation counts and inches us toward our goal, because every child matters.

Fill A Backpack – Donation Bin Stickering/Cleaning

THIS WEEK! On Thursday, June 5th from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM you can help us kick off our Fill A Backpack program and volunteer for the first service event of this summer series. Volunteers will support our team in this preparation phase by cleaning out and re-stickering the 200 donation bins utilized by community members during their collection events to gather backpack and school supplies.

Please note that volunteers must be 16+ to sign up for this event, and all should be comfortable moving and lifting up to 30 lbs.

Fill A Backpack – Prep

At the start of next month on Monday, July 7th from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM we’re looking for volunteers comfortable lifting and moving to help get our space setup for our summer programming. This will entail setting up tables, moving bins of supplies, and stocking heavy materials onto the shelves so we’re ready to start filling backpacks.

Please note that volunteers must be 16+ to sign up for this event, and all should be comfortable moving and lifting up to 30 lbs.

Fill A Backpack – Individual, Friend & Family Days!

We know that many of you are eager to work the assembly lines and help fill backpacks this summer, but we don’t have the dates finalized for our individual, friend & family days quite yet! Please keep your eyes out for a Fill A Backpack program kick-off email later this month with more details.

ADDITIONAL SERVICE PROJECTS THIS MONTH:

Community Distribution at Front Range Mobile Home Community

On Wednesday, June 25th from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM we’re seeking volunteers to assist during a Community Distribution at the Front Range Mobile Home Community. During the event, we’ll be providing clothing, food, hygiene products, and new toys to families!

Ongoing Opportunities in the Donation Center & Store

While we take on additional programming for Fill A Backpack during the summer, we continue to serve 45 families every day by providing basic needs through our Store and need volunteers to help us keep-up with our day-to-day operations.

Donation Center - Help process incoming donations, a majority of which is clothing, and prepare goods for distribution to the families we support. This includes sorting by type and size, conducting a quality check, placing onto hangers, and more!
Store - Play a crucial role in creating a dignified shopping experience for the families we support. Help restock the shelves/racks with basic needs, maintain store cleanliness and organization, and contribute to the smooth operation of checkout stations.

Can you sew? Crafters Needed for Special Project!

We’ve got a bit of a crafty project in the works and need volunteers who know how to use a sewing machine to assist us! Essentially, we are looking for help sewing branded tags with our logo onto tote bags – these items will be used as appreciation gifts for our supporters and swag items during special events.
