NC DHHS developed a Work First Summer Read Program every week. Students read a book for six weeks, and the caregiver signs off. As the summer comes to an end, NC DHHS will host a pizza party on August 12, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In addition, the Piedmont (NC) Chapter, in partnership, will deliver 75 book bags that chapter members have provided. Additionally, the NC DHHS will provide the students with school supplies that have been donated or purchased for this event.
Drop Off location: We will deliver the 75 book bags to the auditorium at NC DHHS, 330 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, Gastonia, NC 28052.
There will be a short program starting at 11:00am. The children will come in by 11:30am. We will be able to take photos with them at that point.
