Synchronicity Theatre presents Toni Talk: Mothers and Daughters – Experiences of Us
Saturday, February 20 2021
This special Toni Talk will welcome mothers and daughters, and explore the heart of tolerance – empathy, understanding, and community — and how they can be used to confront issues like COVID-19, identity, race, social justice, school, and more. We invite you to come with your daughter, mother, or a friend. Synchronicity’s artists will join Dr. RJ Verwayne in an open conversation designed to help make the invisible, visible. This event will feature excerpts from Toni Morrison’s writings, a short talk and discussion, and breakout rooms with fun activities led by our teaching artists to bring mothers and daughters together.
This ‘virtual’ event is free, but advance registration is required.
Registration process:
1) Register in TIF (for internal tracking) AND
2) Register at Synchronicity (for admission information): https://synchrotheatre.com/season/24/toni-talk (Registration Opens Feb 2, 2021)
Produced as part of a year-long exploration of themes from Toni Morrison’s work, culminating with Synchronicity’s live theatre production of THE BLUEST EYE in June 2021.
-----
In support of our production, Synchronicity Theatre is crafting a year of The Bluest Eye experiences in partnership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Tau Epsilon Omega Chapter.
During the month of June 2021, Synchronicity Theatre will have a series of specially-themed post-show discussions and events to run parallel to its production of The Bluest Eye. Leading up to that, during our 2020-21 Season, we will host four “TONI TALKS.” These intimate, interactive conversations will be rooted in Toni Morrison’s writings, and will feature moderated discussion groups and panels, each one around a particular theme.
This innovative project is in alignment with Alpha Kappa Alpha’s International Program platform, Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service, under leadership of International President, Dr. Glenda Glover. Target 4, The Arts! exposes students and communities to arts enrichment and culture by focusing on visual and performing arts and by showcasing talent through the exploration of writers, entertainers and various other artists and art forms. The works of Toni Morrison, a beloved member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, appropriately support the special features of the Excellence Platform Target 4, The Arts!, a Salute to the Harlem Renaissance and Black Arts Movement.
