Discovering Dentistry Symposium
Saturday, July 12 2025
A key component to oral health care access for any community is a robust network of oral health care providers – dentists, specialists, hygienists, and assistants – and the Capital Region is one of many in New York State that is facing an oral health crisis with a severe shortage of providers.
We will be partnering with Planet Smilez to deliver a Discovering Dentistry Symposium to a group of STEM students in Schenectady's Rise High program.
Planet Smilez is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming oral health education and expanding access to dental careers, with a particular emphasis on supporting individuals from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The Discovering Dentistry Symposium features immersive, hands-on simulation modules that blend theoretical concepts with real-world applications. These modules allow participants to explore various oral health procedures, offering practical insight into careers in the dental field. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including oral health prevention, nutrition, restorative care, orthodontics, and dental trauma, fostering both knowledge and skill development through experiential learning. The program also creates an interactive environment where students engage in team-based projects, discussions, and activities that connect oral health to systemic health, enhancing their critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
This event will take place at the Center for Advanced Technology @ Mohonasen, located at 400 Warrior Way, Schenectady, NY 12303
