Lake Fairfax Trail 19 Day 2

Saturday, January 20 2018

Update 1/12/18: It pains me to do this again, especially when it is literally 68 degrees outside, but tomorrow it looks like it is going to be below freezing temps with winds blowing around 20 mph. This basically sounds miserable so I am once again going to move the date to next Saturday, January 20th, and hope for better weather. Again, thanks for your patience as this work will definitely pay off with more trails already on the horizon.

Weather update 12/28: Once again we have been thwarted by the weather, but that's what we might expect when trying to squeeze in some winter work. Let's face it, nobody wants to be volunteering in the woods when it is in the 20's, even when it is building some awesome new trail. We will try to reschedule for Saturday, January 13th from 10-2:00 since the 10 day forecast already has next Saturday also being below freezing and maybe we luck out with the weather. Again, I know it might seem silly trying to schedule these events for the winter, but it is part of a larger schedule of some exciting new things happening at your favorite local park and trails.
-------------

We started work on the new trail 19 "Cliffhanger" and made some great progress on our first day out. Let's keep up the momentum and continue our work if the weather cooperates.

We will meet in the cricket field parking lot on Saturday December 30th from 10:00 to 2:00. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so just make sure you check back for any updates. We will not work in the rain, snow, or freezing temperatures because nobody wants to be miserable for volunteer work.

For the work, bring work gloves, water, and a snack. Dress appropriately for the weather in layers because you will be surprised how nicely you warm up when working. We will provide the tools.

There is a possibility that we could have this trail open before the new year with a good turn out so let's continue our great work on this exciting new piece of trail in your favorite local park. If you are wondering why we are pushing so hard through the winter, please recall that the park master planning is currently in progress. We want to show the strength of our mountain bike community and what we give to the park for all to use.
