Help with Kenzie's Capstone Project! Making bears out of Flamingos!

Monday, November 02 2015

Join Kenzie as she helps a group of 3rd grade girl scouts to make bears out of plastic lawn flamingos all for a good cause!
You will be helping girls glue fabric onto the birds.

This event is in Boulder- so you will need to be able to drive, or ride with Ms. Adams if she has room.
We will leave at 2:45 and return to SCHS by 5:30pm

The event will be at: Meadowlark preschool/ church in Boulder. The address is 2650 Table Mesa Dr, Boulder, CO 80305.

Follow more about Kenzie's project on Facebook: The Dorothy's Friends Project" or email her at: peila.mckenz04@svvsd.org

For my project, I am working with different groups (senior centers, girl scout troops, community school, etc) in the Longmont community to decorate plastic garden flamingos. These will be decorated to resemble animals at the Wild Animal Sanctuary. After they are decorated, they will be sold for $20 and the proceeds that are made from that will go to the Sanctuary. This is a group that rescues exotic carnivores from abusive and/or illegal situations and gives them a large habitat for these animals to live in for the rest of their lives.

I will also be educating these groups about exotic animal cruelty and about the Sanctuary itself.

The reason I am doing this project for the Sanctuary is because exotic animal cruelty is so prevalent in our world today and there are so many people who don't think about how this affects thousands of animals each day. By raising awareness about this issue, further steps can be taken to help stop it.

Here are some instructions from Kenzie!

Thank you so much for volunteering for this event! It helps me out a ton!
What you will be doing is helping the third graders make bears out of plastic garden flamingos. Attached is a photo of what those will look like.

To make these flamingos, these kids will be gluing fleece patches onto the flamingos. All of these have been cut out. To glue the pieces, they will take a Popsicle stick and spread the paste onto a patch, then place it on the flamingo. The key is to spread these patches out on the flamingo and not clump them all in one area. After that, they will be gluing three pom poms onto the flamingo, two on either side of the head and one on the tail.

You guys will be helping the kids glue the patches on, maybe making suggestions as to where they could place a patch, and be people they can talk to. High schoolers are very cool to a third grader, so even if they don't necessarily need help gluing, just talk to them. You will also be there to help make sure they don't make a huge mess with the glue.

Thank you, and I am super excited to work with everyone!
