Skyline Natural Area is an open space on the western side of Loveland that boasts sandstone cliffs, sweeping views, and abundant wildlife and plant life. City of Loveland will be opening new trails soon, and we need your help restoring lands damaged during construction. Team up with WRV and the City of Loveland to plant natives grown by the High Plains Environmental Center (HPEC). You can donate a plant or two for the project by adding a "Pay it Forward" plant to your native plant shoipping cart at the HPEC website.

Many of the plants we will plant were grown from seeds collected at Skyline Natural Area and the adjacent Dakota Ridge property last year during WRV volunteer projects, making this a full circle restoration project. Through a multiyear partnership, City of Loveland, WRV and HPEC have been working together to collect and clean native seeds and grown native plants that have been installed throughout natural areas along the Big Thompson River and surrounding open space.

Using plants adapted to the local ecosystem ensures that we are retaining native biodiversity, and use plants that can survive the harsh conditions of Colorado's cold and windy winters and our hot and dry summers. These plants will also continue to provide habitat for wildlife, from pollinators to black bears. Work will include hiking uphill to worksites, and digging into native soils. Bending squatting, kneeling and digging are all part of the day. Although the hiking will be short, volunteers should come prepared for a moderate day of activity in any weather, as we all know fall on the Front Range can be unpredictable.

PARKING NOTE: All volunteers will be required to carpool in City of Loveland vans from a parking lot about 5 minutes from the project site, as parking is unavailable adjacent to our worksite. Additional directions will be shared a week before the project.
