Catechesis of the Good Shepherd - Provide Flowers
We are asking parents to sign up to bring in a large bouquet or two small bouquets of flowers for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Atrium. We are looking to have flowers every Wednesday morning that CGS meets beginning September 13 and going through May 29th.
Please see the sign-up for a date slot listed below and check the description as a few slots require a specific color for the liturgical season.
Why bring flowers to Catechesis of the Good Shephard?
Care of the Environment activities in the Atrium:
In the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Atrium, a vase full of fragrant flowers provides an opportunity to quiet the mind and heart to focus on creating something beautiful to share with others. The children are naturally drawn to the flower arranging table and will quietly focus on all the steps of creating a beautiful vase of flowers. The process of flower arranging is predictably sequenced with precision and care, as are all of the practical life activities- to best support the development of coordination, concentration, order, control of movement, eye-hand coordination, strengthening hand muscles, and independence. The child puts on an apron, selects a vase, fills it with water and chooses the perfect flower to cut and place inside the vase. The child then carries the vase and a small doily to adorn a table in the room (or to a favorite teacher). This sequence of activities brings great inner joy and peace to the child laying the foundation for the prayerful disposition that develops in the Atrium and can be carried out into the rest of the child's daily life.
