Wild Parsnip Removal

Wild Parsnip
Why is FoSP removing this plant? When oils from wild parsnip get on one’s skin, and sweat, and sunlight exposure are added into the mix, it can cause painful blisters.

Management techniques: Mow down, or weed whack the plant before it goes to seed.
Caution: The challenge of wild parsnip happens when the oils of the plant make contact with your skin. If you add sweat and sunlight exposure into the mix, there is a high likelihood your skin could blister. It is recommended that you wear long pants, long sleeves, gloves, hat, and sturdy, work shoes or boots to minimize chances of getting the oils on your skin, as well as reduce exposure to sunlight. It is also ideal to be able to wash your hands, and/or shower, shortly after mowing any patches of wild parsnip. Be sure to thoroughly scrub any oils off with soap.
