Biodynamic Compost Build w/ QBG Compost Team
Tuesday, August 18 2026
This compost windrow will be built in a semi-circle around a very special hybrid Chestnut tree we have growing near the back of our farm.
We will prep the windrow site with a base layer of dead grasses and weeds removed from the Gantry State Park.
The Queens Botanic Garden compost team will deliver food scraps from their collection sites, pre-mixed with sawdust and wood mulch for this build.
We will add a double-layer cap to the windrow, starting with a thin layer of spent mushroom substrate from Mushroom Queens, and a layer of woodchips from Greenwood Cemetery.
Finally, we will learn about and apply the BD Compost Preparations created at KK’s Farm in Southold.
Join us for a special composting activity during the Waxing Crescent Moon in Scorpio.
*Please bring weather appropriate clothing, sun protection, closed toe shoes, insect protection and a water bottle.
