Stewardship Saturday-Native Grasses & Fire-Resilient Landscapes with Wolfy Rougle

Saturday, August 15 2026

Stewardship Saturdays is a new City of Chico volunteer activity designed to connect the community with the natural resources and history of our area. Each event is led by a local expert in fields such as ecology, botany, wildlife, and regional history. Community members are invited to join these hands-on opportunities to learn about the flora, fauna, and cultural landscape that make our parks and open spaces so special. Stewardship Saturdays provide a chance to deepen appreciation for our local environment while helping care for the places that make Chico unique.

Event Details:

Native Grasses & Fire-Resilient Landscapes with Wolfy Rougle
Date: Saturday, August 15th
Time: 9:00-12:00
Location: Parking Lot A - Bidwell Park
Distance: 2-4 miles, easy terrain

Join us for a guided walk with Wolfy Rougle of the Butte County Resource Conservation District, exploring the role of native grasses in building fire-resilient landscapes.

Rougle is a botanist and watershed program manager whose work focuses on forest health, prescribed fire, and climate-resilient land management across Butte County. She has led major regional efforts—including developing forest health plans and founding the Butte County Prescribed Burn Association—to help communities better live with fire.

On this walk, Wolfy will share insights into how native plants, fire, and land stewardship are deeply connected, and what that means for the future of our local landscapes. Whether you're curious about ecology, fire, or practical stewardship, this is a great opportunity to learn from a local expert.

Please bring water, snacks, and sun protection. Please wear sturdy walking shoes.

Your RSVP acknowledges that you have read, understand, and agree to the terms outlined in the City of Chico release of liability. Participants under 18 must have a guardian present and complete the required volunteer forms prior to the event.
