Winter Chicken Chore Training & Refresher

Thursday, December 04 2025

Learn how to do Chicken Chores with Education Director Sarah Doyle and Volunteer Manager Melanie.

Join us if you are new to Chickens, or if you trained but it's been awhile and you need a quick walk-through of the routine for Winter Chicken Chores in their Winter Coop. The training includes how to replenish the chickens' food and water, collect eggs, and clean their enclosure. We will also review Avian Flu precautions, so we don't spread the virus to our chicken flock.

There are two chore slots per day - one in the morning and one in the evening. Chicken chores are self-guided and each trained Chicken Chore Volunteer is welcome to bring family and friends along to watch and participate in collecting eggs, as long as all members of your group wash their hands and disinfect their boots before and after chores. It's often helpful to have a flashlight or headlamp when you chicken chores.

Once you've completed training, you can sign up for as few or as many slots that fit in your schedule. All volunteers are welcome, including those aged 15+ as well as all members of family groups (as long as children are accompanied by an adult).

We will be meeting in front of the Winter Coop (next to the Flower & Bee Shed).

All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes/boots that you are prepared to submerge in our step-in wash bucket. Bring a hat and cold-weather gear. We will begin training promptly at 2pm.
