Walk for the Wild: Celebrating National Wildlife Refuge Week
Friday, October 14 2022
October 8-15
We're on a mission to empower wildlife and humans to thrive. Our challenge for National Wildlife Refuge Week is to get people moving a distance of 5K in nature and to raise funds in support of the Wildlife Refuges in Southeast Louisiana. Join the Friends of Louisiana Wildlife Refuges, Inc., as we walk for the wild in Southeast Louisiana to raise awareness and funds for our wildlife refuges. Together we will raise money for the Friends of Louisiana Wildlife Refuges, Inc. in support of refuge programs. Our mission of the Friends of Louisiana Wildlife Refuges is to engage in promoting better awareness, appreciation, and conservation of the natural environment on the refuges of the Southeast Louisiana Refuges Complex. This Walk for the Wild Event is a virtual event. We have added a few educational opportunities for you to enjoy while on your walk outdoors. You can participate in a Nature Photo Hunt, or you can record your nature observations in one of our refuge bio blitzes. Nature Photo Hunt: While on your walk take a photo of 5 items that you observe. Share your photos on the Southeast Louisiana Refuges Facebook page, (@SoutheastLouisiana) or the Friends of Louisiana Wildlife Refuges Facebook page (@LouisianaFriends), or mail them to lwrfriends@gmail.com.
BioBlitz: Visit one of our nine Southeast Louisiana Refuges during October 8-15, and record any animals or plants you observe using the iNaturalist app or take a photo and upload to the iNaturalist website www.iNaturalist.org. Participate all week in finding and submitting at least ten observations. More information will be coming on for Walk for the Wild, along with suggested 5K routes on our area refuges, so get your walking shoes ready!
