City Nature Challenge

Saturday, April 30 2022

The Louisiana Master Naturalists of Greater New Orleans are hosting the 2021 City Nature Challenge and want you to join us! The dates are April 29 th – May 2 nd . We are competing against the Baton Rouge and Southwest Louisiana areas as well as cities all over the country and around the world!

The goal is to document the most wildlife in our area, including animals, wild plants, insects, fungi, fish, reptiles and this list goes on!

How to participate??
1. Find wildlife
2. Take a picture with your smart phone or digital camera
3. Share it! Upload your observation to iNaturalist.org or with the iNaturalist mobile app and it will be automatically added to the contest project.

This is a fantastic opportunity to get kids out into nature for some excellent family time. It is also a great way for adults to get back to nature and enjoy some time together. The Parishes that contribute to the Greater New Orleans area are, Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, St. Bernard and St. Tammany.

Becky Larkins (larkins.becky@gmail.com) can assist with information in regards to Big Branch Marsh NWR, Salmen Park (Slidell), Northlake Nature Center, F.Blue State park and others along the Northshore.

We are welcoming volunteers to serve as area leaders. This entails a willingness to recruit and manage participants for sections of the city that would be good bioblitz territory - Jean Lafitte, Bayou Sauvage, Northshore, Couturier Forest, or other sections that you may know well. If you have a location you would prefer, please contact Steve Wulff at slwulff@cox.net or phone 504.220.0161.
