Ponchartrain Conservancy : Fall Tree Planting and Swamp Restoration

Friday, October 22 2021

MUST REGISTER HERE : https://www.givepulse.com/event/256279-Fall-Tree-Planting-and-Swamp-Rest...
We are seeking volunteers who are looking to get their hands dirty and help us plant over 5,000 bald cypress and green ash trees throughout our beautiful Pontchartrain Basin! It is well known that forested swamp areas help absorb storm surges and stabilize land along our vanishing coastline. Restoring these essential habitats is one of the most effective ways you can help improve the resiliency of your community and bring biodiversity back to our wetlands!
When and Where
We are currently recruiting volunteers for six days of tree planting, each occurring on a Friday or a Saturday. Volunteers are welcome to attend as many or as few days as they like. We will meet at 8am and stay until 3pm. Event dates and locations are as follows:
Oct 22nd & 23rd - Maurepas Land Bridge - meet at Port Manchac, Akers, LA 70421
Nov 5th & 6th - Central Wetlands - meet on Florida Ave, Violet, LA 70092
Nov 19th & 20th - Location TBD
What to Expect
Each morning at 8am staff and volunteers will gather at the rendezvous location indicated above. From here we will trudge out into the marsh to our planting sites. We will spend the day planting as many trees as possible and will likely finish up around 3pm before returning to our rendezvous site. Sack lunches, including vegetarian options, will be provided. Children and minors are welcome, but please note that this will be messy work! Please come prepared with waterproof clothing and a pair of sturdy rubber boots.
