Nature Strolls with Byron

Sunday, February 09 2020

Join Master Naturalist Byron Almquist on a guided nature stroll at BIG BRANCH WILDLIFE REFUGE. Visit a variety of sites - pines with woodpeckers, boardwalk over a lily covered pond, slough between two ponds, marsh overlook, side roads, Bayou Lacombe and its shoreline. Wild Louisiana irises - but they won't be in bloom... yet.

Emphasis on identifying and learning about vegetation , primarily trees and shrubs. everyone is encouraged to bring a pad and pen to take notes. Extensive use of iNaturalist plus field guides to ID. Pace is very deliberate with numerous starts and stops. To maximize time and resources, most routes will be one way with return to cars in a passenger van. Bring your lunch, we'll stop at the prettiest site that can be found off the trail.

Meeting time is 10:00am, with return to cars in the mid-afternoon. Bring lunch, drink, binoculars, pad and pen plus field guides, "sit upon" for lunch stop - all in a day pack. Dress for the forecast-ed weather. No charge for the outing. Guests are welcome!

Participants receive continuing education hours.
