Explore the Barataria Preserve and learn about science and research happening in your own backyard! FREE family friendly hands-on activities, walks, and talks by National Park Service rangers and volunteers, ISeeChange, Nature’s Notebook, Audubon Society, FrogWatch, and more! Explore the health of your waterways, how frogs can tell us about ecosystem health, how to track bird migrations and much more!

Swamp Science Festival is an annual educational festival at Barataria Preserve which is the Preserve unit of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. This event involves scientific outreach to the public through various educational booths/exhibitors at and along the Visitor Center and Trail. Booths and exhibitors are both scientists and science-related organizations who work on wetlands related topics.

This volunteer opportunity is available to anyone who has a science or naturalist background (e.g., Master Naturalists, NPS VIPs, undergraduate and graduate students, retired teachers, etc.) and an interest in interacting with the public.

Requirements for volunteering include: 1) 18+ in age, 2) able to commit to work at the times outlined by the volunteer position below, and 3) an excitement for science! If you fit this description, please fill out the following the information so we may connect and schedule your volunteer hours!
