PRESENTATION TITLE: Adventures of a Louisiana Birder: 1 Year, 2 Wings, 300 Hundred Species

PRESENTER: Marybeth Lima, Author and Professor of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at Louisiana State University

DESCRIPTION: Marybeth Lima will discuss her new book Adventures of a Louisiana Birder: 1 Year, 2 Wings, 300 Species. This candid and humorous chronicle shows how one woman goes from casual observer to obsessive bird nerd as she traverses Louisiana's avian paradise. Bisected by the Mississippi flyway and home to 400 miles of coast, Louisiana has a variety of habitats which serve as a beautiful backdrop to this remarkable journey...(Lima) endures elusive birds, embarrassing mis-identifications, and hungry insects while enjoying the camaraderie and friendly competition among fellow birders who range from novices to world-renown ornithologist. Erik Johnson says of this book, "A story of the healing power of birds in the face of life's great challenges is told here in beautiful and heart-wrenching details. Whether you are a bird watcher or not, this captivating story of an emotional journey of love and loss makes each of us remember our own vulnerability in this world. It also reminds us why birds matter, and how a life of bird-watching can provide balance, perspective, and new challenges when things get tough."
