World Refugee Day
Saturday, June 22 2019
World Refugee Day is a time to celebrate our refugee neighbors, friends, and coworkers. Refugees are the fabric of our communities and have much to give. Their skills, stories, and their cultural uniqueness contribute much to the colorful fabric of American life. At this time, more than ever, refugees need arms of welcome. To welcome refugees is to invest in a community that is richer with their presence. Refugees bring skills and cultural wealth that beg to be encouraged and cultivated, both so they can thrive and so the local community can benefit from their diverse contribution. World Refugee Day is as much a welcoming of refugees to Eastern Tennessee as it is an invitation for Eastern Tennessee to experience the cultures of our refugee neighbors.
This year's event will be 5pm - 8pm and held in the Jacobs Building at Chilhowee Park.
All volunteers are required to attend one volunteer training prior to the time of the event. Trainings will be held:
Wednesday, June 19th at 10am
Friday, June 21st at 6pm
or
Saturday, June 22nd at 2:30pm
Respond with a message to tell Ian which training day works for you.
