3D-Printed Outdoor Packs for the Homeless and Hikers

Sunday, April 14 2024

The 3D Printing in Medicine Club is organizing an event to create outdoor packs for the homeless and hikers. With the weather getting better, we begin to venture out again, and so do the ticks. New York State has been grappling with a significant tick activity at this time of year, which can have detrimental effects on many, particularly Lyme disease, which is prevalent in the region. Lyme disease can lead to various negative health outcomes, including fatigue, joint pain, neurological issues, and can significantly affect basic functioning. Recognizing the heightened risk faced by the homeless and hiker populations, who are particularly vulnerable to outdoor environments, we aim to distribute our packs, which will include essential items such as tic twisters, tweezers, multipurpose tools, carabiners, and more. These packs will be delivered to different homeless shelters and hiking groups across the Hudson Valley for distribution by local staff..
