WHAT Transplant bamboo into Red Pandas' exhibit and
Cut and package bamboo for feeding the Red Pandas
and other zoo animals

Enjoy the open-to-the-public parts of the zoo
after this project (1:30-6:00pm)

WHERE Franklin Park Zoo, Dorchester
Free parking available.
Accessible by bus from Andrew, Ruggles, and
Forest Hills T stations.

WHY To ensure a sustainable and affordable food supply,
we must replace stripped bamboo plants in the Red Pandas' exhibit, plus
harvest bamboo and package it for cold
storage so that the Red Pandas will have
enough to eat. Other zoo inhabitants will also
enjoy these cut plants.

The Franklin Park Zoo is a community resource
and recreation center managed by the nonprofit
Zoo New England. The Zoo is seriously under-
staffed and under-funded, so needs help making
it more inviting to the public. PMD volunteers
have assisted the Zoo annually since 1993.

Volunteers must be age 14* or older and
be able to lift 25 lbs unassisted.
Volunteers must wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes
as well as bring their own water bottles.

Includes free admission (usually $19.95/adult)/
option to spend 4.5 hours exploring the zoo,
1:30-6:0opm.

*Volunteers age 14-15 must be accompanied by an individually
registered, fully participating adult age 18+.
A parent/guardian must co-sign the waivers of
any volunteer under 18.

Incomplete submissions cannot be honored.
Individuals may only sign up themselves
(and may not reserve spaces for others).
Participation is required for the entire
project time span, 9:30-1:30, rain or shine,
with water and rest breaks.

WHO People Making a Difference (PMD) is a nonprofit
organization that promotes informed and
responsible volunteerism by involving people
in tangible, hands-on work that meets
local needs and by assisting companies
and charities in building successful community
involvement programs that:
* Produce appreciable results while
conserving recipients' limited resources,
* Educate volunteers about broader issues,
* Bring people together to make a difference.
