Invasives Removal and Possibly some Pruning in Alexandria's Ben Brenman Park

Saturday, July 23 2022

Please come lend a hand for two hours helping to remove a couple patches of invasive Porcelainberry from the meadow in Alexandria's Ben Brenman Park.

-- Please note --- although the primary activity will be removing Porcelainberry, I will bring out a weed wrench or two so folks who have not used one can learn how to use one of these terrific tools.

The berries on the Porcelainberry vines are just starting to form right now but are not mature; by pulling the vines now we can prevent a lot of seed from being sown and having our trees and Sumac shrubs enveloped by this harmful invasive vine this year and into future years.

Please note that, depending how the mid-week invasives work goes, way may have time to do some pruning of low-hanging branches over two walking paths so as to prevent the city's Park Maintenance crews from going through and hacking on trees/stub cutting branches to keep the walking path clear.

We will meet at 9:00am (before the heat gets terrible) at the Ben Brenman Park Soccer field parking lot:
