Pruning in Alexandria's Ben Brenman Park

Saturday, June 18 2022

We will be meeting next to my Silver Toyota Tacoma pickup truck in the parking lot next to the Ben Brenman Park bathrooms:

We will be taking our time to cover the "why" of pruning the trees we'll be working on as well as the "how." This will be both an educational and a productive event; for newer tree stewards increasing their knowledge and confidence, this could be counted as continuing education or volunteer work.

We will meet up at 9:00 am so as to work before the summer heat really kicks in.

We will be pruning some dead limbs off of a Purple Plum tree. There are also some London Plane Trees that have some low hanging branches over a park bench and walking path; if we don't prune them carefully and correctly, Park Maintenance will have untrained contractors hack on the trees. We may prune some declining Flowering Cherry Trees, and possibly prune a couple branches off of a Bald Cypress tree.

Also, sharing the Virginia Cooperative Extension Pruning Calendar for those who might be interested in this resource: https://www.pubs.ext.vt.edu/content/dam/pubs_ext_vt_edu/430/430-460/SPES...
