Dominion HIlls (Arlington) Invasive Pull
Friday, June 19 2026
Please join us at our Dominion Hills site (in Arlington) for a June work party. We have a number of tasks that need tending to now that the growing season is in full swing. We
will be helping our new trees and shrubs by clearing away encroaching
vines and other "unhelpful" vegetation and (if we don't get a good rain
by Friday) watering as needed. We also need to remove a few trunk
protectors where they are no longer necessary. We
will be selectively thinning out some pokeweed (yes, native, but it's
becoming a monoculture in some spots, shading out other stuff, and we
have permission from Sue Kim to pull a few out). As
usual, we will continue to work on escorting out many of our uninvited
occupants (curly dock, 1st-year garlic mustard, mile-a-minute,
honeysuckle vine, and Himalayan blackberry, to name a few). Wear long pants and
long sleeves and sturdy, close-toed shoes to protect from poison ivy,
ticks, and thorny brush. Bring water for yourself -- plus hand tools
and gloves, if you have them. We
will have tools and gloves to share if you don't have your own. Plus,
we will have insect repellent (not a substitute for long pants, etc.,
though) and poison ivy soap and wipes. We will also have some good snacks! Gather near 1000 Patrick Henry Dr., Arlington -- Look for the green "Volunteers" sign. There is plenty of street parking. We appreciate it if you can sign up in advance (to help us with planning, etc.); however, walk-ins are always welcome, too.
