STEM Iron Showcase: Hibbing, MN
Friday, October 04 2019
Provide fun, hands-on STEM activities for ~1200 6th grade students from Minnesota Arrowhead region schools. Sixth graders will arrive in 2 shifts to the Hibbing Memorial Building (Hockey Rink) to wander to dozens of activities.
Volunteers will lead short activities at booths. Transportation provided (Hibbing is ~90 minutes away) as well as lunch and t-shirts. Volunteers are welcome to sign up for both shifts (you would just stay in Hibbing) and can earn $5 for their chosen student club for each shift worked.
Activities will be provided along with a short overview of how to share the STEM fun with the students.
Group 1: 6am-1:30pm (activities from 9-11:30am in Hibbing). Volunteers will load activities on bus at UMD, set up activities at tables in Hibbing, share them with the first group of students, grab a lunch and head back to UMD.
Group 2: 9:30-4:45 (activities from 12-2:30pm in Hibbing). Volunteers will board bus at UMD, grab a quick lunch upon arrival in Hibbing, share activities with students, pack up and load activities, unload activities upon arrival at UMD
