CANCELED - Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day

Saturday, October 03 2026

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER.

Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day — Saturday, Oct. 3
We’re partnering with the City of Grapevine for Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day at Horseshoe for what is the 18th year (or so…) in succession.

The public event runs 9:00–11:00 AM. All DORBA volunteers should report at 8:00 AM so we have enough time to get set up before families arrive.

Event Flow + Volunteers

The kids will move through the activities in sequence: Safety & Trail Etiquette → Log Pull → Trail Ride. Our activity volunteers will move with them.

1. Safety Drill + Basic Trail Etiquette — Adam + Dai + 1 volunteer

Adam Grisz will lead, supported by Dai Flake. We need one additional volunteer to help them.

Once this session finishes, the same team moves directly into the Log Pull.

2. Log Pull — Adam + Dai + 1 volunteer

A fun, timed 30-yard course where each kid tows a log behind their bike.

The same three volunteers will run the activity. We’ll try and round up cowbells/water guns and a few folding chairs for the sidelines.

Once the Log Pull finishes, this crew can transition into supporting the trail ride.

3. Trail Ride — 4–5 DORBA riders total

Grapevine PD will most likely lead the ride.

We need 4–5 DORBA riders total, which can include Adam, Dai and our additional activities volunteer. This gives us enough coverage for someone to peel off and escort a child out via the service road if they need to bail, without leaving the main group short.

Check-in + Merch — 2 volunteers

* Check DORBA waivers as families arrive
* Run the merch table at the same time
* Once check-in slows down, we can drop to one person on the table
Equipment + Logistics

The tent and event infrastructure from TORS is going back to our Coppell and Carrollton storage units tonight, so we’ll need to coordinate pickups and transport to Horseshoe during the week.

Teardown

Everyone volunteering at TAKMBD can help knock down the setup at the end. We’ll coordinate where the equipment needs to go afterward.
