July Trailwork Event

Date: Saturday, July 11, 2026

Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Note: Volunteers with riding mowers please arrive at 8:00 AM for an early start.

Lock in your spot and RSVP on the Track It Forward App via the link in our bio.

Gear and Tool Callout (BYO-Tools)

To maximize our impact, volunteers are highly encouraged to bring their own equipment. We need mechanical horsepower and hand tools alike:

Riding Mowers and Zero-Turns: Local riders with mowers, we need you. Massive open prairie acres need heavy knocking down.

Lawn Care Gear: Standard push mowers and gas or heavy-duty cordless string trimmers and weed eaters.

Hand Tools: Pruning shears, loppers, mini chainsaws, and hand saws.

The Game Plan: Crew Assignments

We are dividing and conquering based on your experience and the gear you bring:

The Mowing and Trimming Vanguard: We have 12 miles of trail weaving through more than 60 acres of open prairie with tall, overgrown late spring and summer grass. Riding mowers will handle the heavy bulk clearing, followed closely by push mowers and string trimmers to clean up the trail edges.

Corridor Clearing and Trash Cleanup: Teams will deploy across separate trailheads to clear the singletrack loop. This crew focuses on dropping low-hanging limbs, cutting back invasive vines, and pulling back branches pinching the trail corridor. DORBA will have loppers, shears, buckets, trash bags, and litter grabbers available.

Skills Area and Erosion Control: A targeted crew focusing on specific landscaping needs around the skills area hub and implementing structural maintenance to repair erosion issues on active trail segments.

Volunteer Prep: Come Ready to Work

Volunteers must be prepared to work self-sufficiently out on the loop. Please ensure you bring and wear the following:

Footwear: Sturdy work boots or trail shoes (no open-toed shoes or light sneakers).

Personal Protective Equipment: Tough work gloves and eye protection are required if operating tools and equipment.

Hydration: Bring plenty of your own water to stay hydrated through the morning.

Sun and Bug Protection: Sunscreen and bug spray are highly recommended for the open prairie and wooded corridors.

Important Trail Reminders

As always, the trails are strictly closed to all traffic when wet or muddy. Let the dirt dry, and check the Trailforks app or the official DORBA status page before heading out.

Have a local business, church group, or scout troop? Want to give back outside of the monthly group events? DM us about our new Adopt-A-Mile program for ongoing support and territory ownership of Erwin Park's trails.
