National Trails Day at Erwin Park, McKinney
Saturday, June 06 2026
Erwin Park Volunteer Workdays: 9:00 AM – Noon
Saturday, June 6 (National Trails Day)
Saturday, June 13 (Our Regular Second Saturday)
Our trails are maintained by volunteers like you. City construction on upcoming park facility improvements has been delayed, handing us an unexpected opportunity to get the singletrack aggressively cleared, maintained, and ready to ride for another season!
Because of heavy spring growth, we are running back-to-back weekend workdays.
CRITICAL TRAIL CLOSURE NOTICE: To keep our volunteers safe and let machinery operate efficiently, the trails will be entirely closed to all bikers, runners, and hikers from 8:00 AM to Noon on both June 6th and June 13th. Please stay off the dirt during these windows. All events are weather pending. The trails are strictly closed to all traffic when wet or muddy.
Saturday, June 6th: National Trails Day Workday (Weather Permitting)
Our primary push to knock back the heavy, overgrown sections before the summer heat cooks it in.
Saturday, June 13th: Second Saturday Workday - Ongoing Monthly
Our standard monthly volunteer day to follow up, dial in the details, and finish maintenance.
Lock in your spot and RSVP on the Track It Forward App
To maximize our impact, volunteers are highly encouraged to bring their own equipment. We need mechanical horsepower and hand tools alike:
Riding Mowers & Zero-Turns: Local riders with trailers, we need you. Massive open prairie acres need heavy knocking down.
Lawn Care Gear: Standard push mowers and gas or heavy-duty cordless string trimmers/weed eaters.
Hand Tools: Pruning shears, loppers, and hand saws.
We are dividing and conquering based on your experience and the gear you bring:
1. Mowing & Trimming We have 12 miles of trail weaving through more than 60 acres of open prairie with tall, overgrown grass. Riding mowers will handle the heavy bulk clearing, followed closely by push mowers and string trimmers to clean up the trail edges.
2. Corridor Clearing & Trash CleanupTeams will deploy across separate trailheads to clear the singletrack loop. This crew focuses on dropping low-hanging limbs, cutting back invasive vines, and pulling back branches pinching the trail corridor. (Needed: Loppers, shears, buckets, trash bags, and litter grabbers, etc.)3. Skills Area & Trail Erosion Control A targeted crew focusing on specific landscaping needs around the skills area hub and implementing structural maintenance to repair erosion issues on active trail segments.
Volunteers must be prepared to work self-sufficiently out on the loop. Please ensure you bring and wear the following:
Footwear: Sturdy work boots or trail shoes (no open-toed shoes or light sneakers).
PPE: Tough work gloves and eye protection.
Hydration: Bring plenty of your own water to stay hydrated through the morning.
Sun & Bug Protection: Sunscreen and bug spray are highly recommended for the open prairie and wooded corridors.
As always, the trails are strictly closed to all traffic when wet or muddy. Let the dirt dry, and check the Trailforks app or the official DORBA status page before heading out.
Let's smash these two workdays and get Erwin Park dialed. Drop a comment below if you're coming, and let us know what mechanical equipment or heavy tools you can bring to the line!
