Erwin Park - Troop 909 Hub Project
Skills Area "Hub 2" Reconstruction
Location: Erwin Park Skills Area (Lower Course Junction)
Project Beneficiary: DORBA / City of McKinney
Primary Contact: Shawn Feiock, Trail Steward
Project Objective
The objective is the full recovery and reconstruction of Hub 2, located at the base of the Erwin Park Skills Area. This hub serves as a critical safety and traffic-flow connector, channeling multiple bike paths into a single, organized exit point.
Hub 2 is designed to be an exact architectural match to "Hub 1" (constructed in 2019), maintaining a consistent aesthetic and structural standard throughout the park.
Background & Scope of Work
The initial construction of Hub 2 was attempted by a separate group but resulted in unsatisfactory work that did not meet safety or structural specifications. BSA Troop 909 has been specifically selected to "rescue" and complete this project due to their proven history of excellence, dedication, and high-level project execution within McKinney’s park system.
Key tasks include:
Deconstruction of unsatisfactory retaining wall segments. Leveling and base preparation to match the Hub 1 blueprint. Reconstruction of the retaining wall using existing materials. Expectations of Autonomy & Leadership
Unlike standard volunteer workdays, this project is designed for Troop-led execution. Following the initial briefing and vision-sharing by the Trail Steward, Troop 909 is expected to:
Plan & Execute: Formulate and follow an internal work plan to complete the project with minimal recurring instruction. Supervision: Provide all necessary adult leadership and instruction for youth scouts. Troop 909 maintains exclusive responsibility for the safety and oversight of its members. Quality Control: Ensure the final build meets the "overbuilt" durability standards established by the Erwin Park Trail Crew. Stewardship & Community Impact
This project goes beyond simple labor recruitment; it is a strategic partnership. By trusting Troop 909 with the reconstruction of this vital piece of trail infrastructure, the City of McKinney and DORBA are acknowledging the troop's role as premier community stewards. The "rescue mission" of Hub 2 was strategically assinged to provide a manageable service project that would highlight the strengths and above average dependability of troop 909 and its leadership.
