MICHIGAN SHOWCASE 2026 FRIDAY

Registration

The Registration area is the first point of contact for competitors, where they are welcomed and provided with necessary event information. Volunteer positions here include Skater Check-In, Coach and Official Check-In, and serving as the main information hub. These roles are ideal for volunteers who enjoy engaging with people and offering excellent customer service. Volunteers typically work at a table, either individually or, during busy periods, with one or two others.

Back Stage Skater Check In

Event Monitors are essential for keeping the competition on schedule. Monitors are assigned per rink, where they manage rink doors and ensure that the correct skaters are on the ice at the appropriate times. This position requires effective communication with other volunteers and officials. Volunteers who are detail-oriented, can communicate clearly, and are comfortable multitasking are well-suited for this role. Warm clothing and comfortable shoes are recommended.

Practice Ice Monitor

Practice Ice Monitors are responsible for verifying that only the correct skaters are on the ice and for announcing the start and end of each practice session. It is ideal for volunteers who pay close attention to detail and communicate effectively. Warm attire and comfortable footwear are advised.

Music & Announcing for Practice Ice

Volunteers in this role enjoy a front-row seat to all the programs by either playing the music or announcing skaters onto and off the ice. Playlists and scripts are prepared in advance; volunteers are only responsible for starting and stopping the music and making announcements. This position requires sitting inside the rink for the entire shift.  Announcing is a valuable skill for any resume, and this role offers a great opportunity to be involved in the action.

Guard Runners (for Teams)  In additiona to adults, this is a great role for skaters who are not actively competing during the shift time.  This position is open to skaters 8 and older.

During competitions, Guard Runners are responsible for delivering skate guards and personal belongings, which are placed in a bin, to the rink exit for skaters.

Officials’ and Coaches’ Hospitality

Volunteers help ensure that competition officials and coaches are well taken care of by stocking the hospitality room, assisting with catered meals, and maintaining hot beverage stations throughout the event.

Set Up/Breakdown

Volunteers join a team for event setup the day before the competition or for packing up after the event concludes. Tasks include walking, moving furniture, cleaning, packing, and some lifting, as well as covering rink boards during setup. This role offers a physical workout and is a good fit for those unable to volunteer during the competition itself.

Awards

Volunteers in the Awards role present medals to skaters at the podium when results are final for each event.

Spotlight Controller – Competition and Practice Rink

Operating the spotlight offers one of the best views of the competition. The job is to follow the skater with the spotlight, aiming to keep the light centered on their body throughout their performance. While it may seem daunting, this role is crucial to the event’s success.
