Outreach: Art Workshop at Rivian Theater
Saturday, June 06 2026
Do not go to Ocean Institute - go straight to the address below. Be sure to give yourself extra time to find parking.
Meet staff here, help get setup and ready for guests by 10am. Help cleanup when event ends. We will have a mobile touch tank + other activities and the main message here is that we have animals in our tank for interacting with, but in a marine protected area (MPA) like Laguna Beach, we are not allowed to interact with these animals in the wild.

Event Details:
Join Rivian, Oriana Poindexter, and the Ocean Institute for a special ocean art experience in Laguna Beach. Oriana is a local artist and marine scientist who documents the kelp forest ecosystem with photo-based art exhibits.
The event kicks off with a live sea creature touch tank provided by the Ocean Institute, where you'll have the chance to meet some of the animals that call Laguna Beach's kelp forest home. Then, inspired by the sea creatures, Oriana will guide you to create cyanotypes, or sun prints, using images of kelp forest species. You'll create two prints - one to keep, and one that will become part of Oriana's upcoming exhibit, debuting in 2027.
Afterward, head across the street to Main Beach to keep the ocean fun going at Kelpfest!
