SUMMER INTERNS
Sunday, July 06 2025
Interns will need to complete two (2) shadow shifts, in which they will shadow a Public Programs instructor. Here, there are two shifts to choose from. Tour Guide Interns should sign up for the tour guides shift, and Public Programs Interns should sign up for the Public Programs Rotations shift.
Be sure to arrive early/on time for your shifts. We will begin the day with a pre-shift meeting with the shift lead to go over the schedule for the day, the activities on display, rotations, any special groups to expect on campus, etc. Use the iPad at the volunteer station to clock in and out, or use the Hours Log form by logging in to Track It Forward.
Goals for Training:
- Learn OI campus, buildings, and exhibit locations
- Learn OI public offerings for the summer
- Study OI challenge sheets
- Work as part of a team with OI staff and use interpersonal communication
- Comfortably and effectively interact with the public
- Communicate marine science to a wide range of ages and abilities, using various techniques
- Explain safety procedures to guests and strictly enforce safety guidelines
This is a 6-hour shift, so be sure to take a lunch break!
