About

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization that exists to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies and to provide relief for the victims of disasters. We are led in this effort by volunteers and guided by the principles of the International Red Cross movement: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality. These principles and our mission shape all that we do and all that we are.

Volunteer opportunities with the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region are available throughout the region. Our offices are located in the City of Alexandria, Arlington County, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County in Virginia; Montgomery County and Prince George's County in Maryland; and the District of Columbia.
