Fall Work Day

Saturday, November 03 2018

RBR will hold its Semi-Annual Work Day on November 3rd. We’ll begin our work day at 8:00 am in the Clubhouse with a breakfast spread including fresh coffee. Our Director of Grounds will have several projects, big and small, for us to work on. We’ll stop around 1:00 pm to have lunch in the picnic area compliments of RBR. It’s a good idea to bring gloves and some tools if you can. Remember to label anything you bring to ensure that you’ll get it back!

PLEASE NOTE: The event runs from 8 am to 1 pm, but no one is expected to work the entire 5 hours (unless you choose to). There are many jobs, big and small, so please come and pitch in when and where you can--it all makes a difference!

Here's a list of some of the jobs we plan to tackle on Saturday (click the "+" for details):

Tree trimming
1. Carefully cut down a few small, dead Cottonwood trees along the north fence line. Need to be careful not to upset the horses in nearby stalls (some may need to be moved temporarily). People who do this must be familiar with and safe using a chain saw. Tools needed: chain saw, regular saw, loppers. 2. Trim up/ back Oak tree branches hanging on top of stall shelters at both upper and lower levels – per Anna Armstrong's instructions, please (there are limits on the size of branches we can cut). Also, KT may want to weigh in on how much to cut back over her lesson horses’ stalls. It’s hand work so hopefully no horses will get upset and need to be moved, but we should monitor. Tools needed: loppers, hand clippers, ladder. 3. Cut back branches on the dead Oak tree, east fence line at lower level by lesson horse stalls (tree is on the other side of the fence). Again, KT may want to weigh in on this, but the City wants to remove as much dead wood as possible on our side to reduce the fire hazard. Chain saw work required – only people who know how to use one safely, and horses may need to be moved. Tools needed: chain saw, regular saw, loppers.

  ↳
Remove large branches from the composter
Remove large branches (over 1” diameter takes too long to decompose) from the composter and move to the brush pile for City pickup and recycling. Tools needed: wheelbarrow.
