Shenandoah National Park Work Day

Saturday, June 30 2018

The National Park Service has asked for help controlling a new invasive to the area called wavyleaf grass. They are seeking volunteers on Saturday June 30 and Sunday July 1 from 9am for as long as you wish to stay.

Where the invasive is dense and has already out-competed all natives, we will use a backpack sprayer. Where it has not taken over completely and is mixed in with natives, we will hand pull. It doesn't re-root, so it can be left in place.

No need to bring any tools, but if you choose to use a sprayer, you are required to wear a long-sleeve shirt. Otherwise, dress for the woods and bring liquids, snacks/lunch.

Location: Shenandoah National Park. The meeting location will be identified in more detail to those of you who volunteer as we get closer to the date, but it is on the west slope of the park, off Rt. 33 near Elkton (due east of Harrisonburg.)
