Upper Mad Opening Weekend - Logout
Friday, July 03 2026
We are officially in high fire watch in our area. Please be mindful of campfires, have a spark arrester on your bike (required), and be careful what your saw touches.
UPDATE: We had a location change on our camp spot - we are now at Swallow Caves Dispersed Camp Site - https://thedyrt.com/camping/washington/swallow-caves-campground#location. It's not too far from our original choice. Please be careful on Chiwawa Loop Rd; there are massive tire-popping potholes circled in orange that can be hard to see.
Please note that this site has no bathroom, running water, or trash service. If you drive down the street to Goose Creek Campground, you can access a bathroom and potable water there. Brapp in and brapp out everything.
I will serve dinner around 18:00-ish on Friday night.
We will have fuel, PPE, med kits, tread tools, saws, and all the necessary equipment in our MotoV Volunteer Trailer. If you're looking for particular experience from this work party, please let me know so we can ensure you're grouped with the appropriate people. If you plan to use a saw, please bring chaps or saw pants. Please note the elevation change if you need to calibrate any equipment.
Saturday morning, we will have lunches set out around 7:00 for you to make and pack (sandwiches, salty snacks, Gatorades, fruit, Mio, etc). Breakfast will be ready by 7:30. We will hold a safety talk during breakfast and then break into our crews. This crew will be led by USFS's Sam Zook.
We will start heading to the Upper Mad Trail Head around 8:00. If you have kiddos, we can load their bikes into a truck the night before and have them ride with someone because it's cold in the mornings and road riding isn't very fun. Let's try not to make excessive noise in the morning so we don't wake other people enjoying the outdoors.
Dinner will be served when ya'll arrive back at camp.
Sunday, we will rinse and repeat.
Don't have plans for Fourth of July? Come help us open the Upper Mad in the Entiat!
We will be working on this area to get it open to the public with the US Forest Service, so you get first tracks. Come celebrate America 250 by riding your dirtbike. This will be lead by NMA, work plan supported by USFS.
We will have reservations at Meadow Creek Campground which has river access! Trailer maximum length is 30 ft.
There is no water or garbage service. We will have to brappp in and brappp out everything! I will bring water, but please come prepared with a lot of your own water as well!
Here is the campground information - https://www.fs.usda.gov/r06/okanogan-wenatchee/recreation/meadow-creek-campground
Friday is a free-ride day, you can arrive at the campground anytime after lunchtime to set up if you're coming from afar and need a place to stay or if you're local and looking for some adventure. I will serve dinner between 6 and 7 pm.
Saturday breakfast will start at 8 am, trip talk at 9 am. Return in the afternoon in time for dinner.
Sunday rinse and repeat.
Dinner will be provided on Friday. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided on Saturday and Sunday. If you have any allergies or needs, please email [email protected].
The volunteer tool trailer will be there with Trail Boss hand tools, a few saws, PPE, and equipment fuel. Bring your own saws if you have a preference. If you are not USFS chainsaw certified, buddy up with someone who is!
