Camphor removal from Scout island city park

Saturday, April 17 2021

ANOTHER WORK SESSION OF REDUCING THE NUMBER OF CAMPHOR seedlings and saplings on Scout Island in City Park. Time is from 9 am to noon. We have completed two sessions pulling and loping off the camphors by the hundreds but there are thousands to go. We have averaged 15 volunteer naturalists per sessions but hopefully will increase our numbers. The goal is to by reducing this invasive tree, native vegetation will be able to thrive which in turn makes for more birdlife and more scenic viewing for humans. No skills required just a desire to return this island to a more natural state. Reducing this invasive tree is THE service project for the New Orleans chapter of the Master Naturalist. To volunteer, go to friendsofcitypark@volunteerhub.com. After you sign up, details will be provided as to where to come.
